Army Prepares for Regular Season Series Finale

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Continuing on its five-game unbeaten streak, the Army West Point hockey team enters the final weekend of the regular season with a home-and-home with American Int'l. The Black Knights play the Yellow Jackets on the road Thursday night before welcoming them to Tate Rink Saturday for Senior Night.

THIS WEEK: SENIOR NIGHT
- Both contests are slated for 7:05 p.m. with the senior recognitions beginning approximately 10 minutes before the game.
- The Black Knights will recognize five senior members of the team including Clint Carlisle, Parker Gahagen, Ryan Nick, Garret Peterson and C.J. Reuschlein.
- Be sure to stick around after the final horn as the team will salute the seniors one more time with the playing of the West Point Alma Mater at the conclusion of the game versus the Yellow Jackets.
LAST WEEK: CLINCHING A BYE
- For the second straight weekend, the Black Knights picked up a sweep. Army downed Holy Cross (3-1, 4-2) to earn a first-round bye in the AHA Tournament and home ice advantage for the second round.
- Gahagen eclipsed Army's career saves record over the weekend and now boasts 3,040 in his career.
- He made 62 saves in the sweep, while allowing just three, and was named the Army Athletic Association Co-Athlete of the Week for his performance.
- Conor Andrle netted two power play goals for the Black Knights over the weekend along with two assists. His linemates Tyler Pham and Zach Evancho also added goals on Friday night.
- Dalton MacAfee was recognized by the league as the Defender of the Week after dishing out three assists to lead the team.
- Other players in the goal column were Michael Wilson, Alex Wilkinson and Trevor Fidler, while Pham, Taylor Maruya, Reuschlein, Tipper Higgins and Brendan Soucie tallied assists.
FLYING THROUGH FEBRUARY
- Over the last month, the Black Knights have posted an impressive 4-1-1 record.
- Army is riding a season-high five-game unbeaten streak and swept its last two opponents: Niagara and Holy Cross.
- The Black Knights are headed to the post season with a first-round bye. Army has earned 32 points in the AHA and has the chance to maintain third with more points this weekend.
RACE TO THE TOP
- The Black Knights are one of multiple teams vying for the top spots in Atlantic Hockey standings.
- The Griffins are tops in the league with 36 points, followed closely by Air Force (35).
- Army has jumped up to third with 32 points, while Robert Morris (29), Holy Cross (26), Mercyhurst (24), RIT (24) and Bentley (23) are also tight in the arms race.
- The top five teams will receive first-round byes for the AHA Tournament which begins the first weekend of March.
2017 SENIOR CLASS
- The Black Knights will honor five first classmen during Saturday night's game in Carlisle, Gahagen, Nick, Peterson and Reushlein.
- The senior class combines for 155 points throughout their four years in the Army sweater and 46 victories.
- All of the firsties will serve at Fort Lewis, Wash., for their first duty station apart from Reuschlein, who will be at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

LAST TIME OUT
- Army and AIC faced each other twice already this season with the Black Knights coming away with shutouts on both occasions.
- Ian Mansfield netted the game-winner to break the 0-0 tie in December before assisting on the game-winning shorthanded goal by Nick in January.
- Pham tallied a goal in the same game with the assist coming from Dominic Franco. Gahagen's two shutouts helped improve his season total to five and his career total to 10.
SCOUTING AIC
- The Yellow Jackets are 7-18-7 this season and have a 6-14-6 mark in AHA contests.
- AIC had off last weekend, but picked up a point against Air Force after tying the Falcons 3-3 on the road the weekend before.
- The Yellow Jackets' offense has been paced by rookie Blake Christensen who has amassed 20 points off eight goals and 20 assists.
- Dominik Florian follows closely behind with 10 points (10g, 9a). Dominic Racobaldo has the most blocks on the team with 56 as AIC's top defender.
- In net, Zackarias Skog has earned four victories with a .903 save percentage.
