Army Wins Second Straight, Downs Jaspers 11-6

MANHATTAN, N.Y. – Fueled by an eight-goal first half, the Army West Point women's lacrosse team downed Manhattan 11-6 on the road. Nine Black Knights tallied points in the victory Saturday afternoon.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- The Black Knights are now 2-0 on the year after back-to-back victories.
- Today was Army's first road win since last March when it took down Presbyterian (16-3) in Clinton, S.C.
- Rachel Hornick led the team for the second straight week offensively. She tallied four points on three goals and an assist in today's win.
- Samantha Stewart and Amy Johnston each recorded two goals and a helper in the game, while Rilee Scott, Manuela Cortes, Kelsea Krauss and Maddie Miller all had one goal apiece.
- Erin Jollota and Kiersten Spencer both notched assists in the game.
- Maddie Burns played for the full 60 minutes and made six saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army went on two four-goal runs in the game to pull away from Manhattan and win the game.
- The Jaspers struck first to go ahead 1-0, but four-straight by the Black Knights provided them a quick 4-1 lead.
- Johnston scored the first two with the assist to Stewart. Johnston won the ensuing draw control which setup Hornick's first goal of the game. The assist came from Jollota from behind the net.
- Cortes also tallied a score for the Black Knights off a free position shot.
- Manhattan came back with two tallies of its own to make it a one-goal game, but Hornick notched an unassisted goal to give Army a 5-3 lead.
- She then connected with Krauss for a goal before Miller netted one of her own to bring the score to 8-3 in favor of the Cadets with 7:50 minutes remaining in the first half. This closed-out the Black Knights' 4-0 run to end the half.
- The Jaspers and Black Knights each notched three goals in the second half, but Army's eight-goal first half helped the team come away with the victory.
- Stewart's two scores bookended Hornick's lone second half goal. Spencer was the only player to dish out an assist in the final 37:50 minutes of the game.

- The Black Knights' two four-goal runs were today's key moment to victory.
