Army Completes Sweep with Gahagen’s Record Night

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point hockey team clinched a first-round Atlantic Hockey Tournament bye and home ice advantage for the second round with tonight's 4-2 win over Holy Cross at Tate Rink. The Black Knights completed the weekend sweep and amassed four critical points for league standings.
Senior goaltender Parker Gahagen has now attained the career saves record at Army with 3,040.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Army clinched a second-round home ice advantage in the Atlantic Hockey tournament with this weekend's sweep of the Crusaders.
- Within the first four minutes of the game, Gahagen recorded four saves to eclipse Army's career saves record with 3,014 saves.
- The Record was previously held by Brad Roberts, Class of 2006, with 3,013 saves.
- Today's game was also Gahagen's 100th career start.
- For the second night in a row, Conor Andrle notched a power play goal for the Cadets. It was the third-consecutive game that Army has scored on the extra man opportunity.
- Andrle continues to pace the Black Knights' offense with a team-leading 24 points on 13 goals and 11 assists. He now has 74 points in his career.
- Rookies Alex Wilkinson and Michael Wilson also had goals in tonight's game. Both goals were the third of their careers.
- Army sealed the game with a third period empty netter goal by Trevor Fidler.
- Tonight's victory was Gahagen's 16th of the year, a career-high for a single season for the senior.
- Army extended its winning streak over Holy Cross to seven and its unbeaten streak to 10 games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Black Knights attacked early with a goal 1:22 minutes into the game.
- Dalton MacAfee ripped a hard shot from the top of the circle and Wilson tapped it forward from behind the net to score. Taylor Maruya had the initial pass to MacAfee and was also credited with the assist.
- Gahagen's fourth save of the game eclipsed Army's saves record of 3,013 previously held by Brad Roberts ('06).
- Holy Cross netted one with 14:35 on the clock in the first period. Charlie Barrow's shot was saved by Gahagen, but Johnny Coughlin attempted at the rebound and hit Peter Crinella's facemask before trickling past the goal line for the score.
- With 4:40 left in the opening frame, Wilkinson sniped one from below the blue line which streaked past Paul Berrafato. Assists went to Tipper Higgins and C.J. Reuschlein.
- The Crusaders scored just over a minute later after an Army turnover to even things up at 2-2. Ryan Ferrill carried the puck up the ice and scored on a breakaway.
- Andrle scored a power play goal with 16 seconds remaining in the first off a pass from MacAfee on the doorstep then put the puck past Berrafato. Wilkinson was also given an assist.
- Fidler ensured the win with an empty netter goal with 47 seconds remaining. He initially went wide left on the open goal, but followed the puck and scored from the right circle on the fade away with help from Brendan Soucie.
