Cadets set to take on MSU and Air Force

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's tennis team will hit the road to East Lansing, Mich., to take on the Michigan State Spartans Saturday Feb., 18, at 2 p.m., and the Air Force Falcons on Sunday Feb., 19, beginning at 10 a.m.
The Black Knights enter the match with a record of 3-5 on the season.
LAST TIME OUT
Army went 1-2 on the weekend, collecting a victory over UConn while falling to #21 SMU and Buffalo.
The Black Knights started the weekend out against SMU falling 0-7. The bright spot in the match came from the number three doubles spot where David Mitchell and Michael Sienko picked up a victory.
Against Buffalo, Army was able to pick up a point as they fell to the Bison 1-6. The lone point can from the number one singles spot where Michael Nguyen defeated Vidit Vaghela in three sets.
The Cadets rounded out the weekend with a dominating 6-1 victory over UConn. In doubles, Sam Lampman and Gregory Shannon got it done in the number one spot with a 6-3 victory. They were joined by Grant Riechmann and Nguyen in the number two doubles spot collecting a 6-2 win.
In singles, the Black Knights were able to capture five victories, with all but one coming in two sets. At the number one spot, Nguyen won the two sets 7-6, and 6-0. He was followed by his doubles partner Riechmann who finished off his opponent 6-4, 6-3. In the number three and number four singles spots, is was Lampman (6-1, 3-6, 6-1) and Mitchell (6-3, 6-2) coming out on top. The final victory on the day came from the number six singles spot with Anant Mundra winning by scores of 6-1 and 6-3.
SCOUTING MICHIGAN STATE
The Spartans are coming off of a two win weekend over Western Michigan and Chicago State to improve their overall record to 6-3. Michigan State captured the victory against the Mustangs 4-3, and the Cougars, 4-0.
SCOUTING AIR FORCE
The Falcons have started the spring season with an overall record of 3-3. Last weekend, they hosted three teams where they started competition with a 6-1 win over Montana State. Air Force then went on to lose later that night to the University of Missouri – Kansas City, 4-3. On Sunday, the Falcons faced Grand Canyon University where they fell, 4-3.
UP NEXT
The Black Knights will return home to host Stony Brook and NJIT next Saturday and will welcome Bryant on Sunday.
