WASHINGTON, D.C. – Despite playing tight sets, the Army West Point volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to American Friday night.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND MATCH NOTES
- Jaden Pickell posted a season-high 15 kills in the match along with Vanessa Wesley.
- Amber Clay tallied 13 kills and 11 digs for a double-double.
- Carolyn Bockrath added nine kills and Allie Strong had eight.
- Haven Bethune totaled 53 assists on the night.
- Strong led the Black Knights with 15 digs, while Ana Oglivie recorded 11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE (27-25 AMERICAN)
- The Black Knights fought until the end of the set and forced it to extra points with American taking the 27-25 advantage.
- Army and the Eagles had an even 16 kills in the set, but the Cadets' nine errors to American's five was the difference maker.
- Clay stood out with seven kills, while Wesley recorded five to lead Army.
SET TWO (25-22 ARMY)
- The Black Knights and Eagles continued to battle in a close match.
- There were 13 tie scores and four lead changes in the second set.
- The two squads were tied at 21-all, but went on a 4-1 run to win the set. It was Army's first set with against American since 2015.
- Wesley notched another five kills, while Clay and Pickell added four apiece.
SET THREE (25-16 AMERICAN)
- American came out strong after the break to take it 25-18.
- Although the Black Knights held a 15-13 kill advantage in the set, the Eagles were able to pull through and take a 4-1 lead in blocks.
- Wesley and Pickell both recorded four kills in the set.
SET FOUR (25-23 AMERICAN)
- American was up for match point against Army 24-21, but the Black Knights fought back to make it a two-point game before the Eagles took it.
- Pickell was on fire in the final set with seven kills, a season-best in a single set.
- She hit .778 in the fourth for the Black Knights.
- Bethune had all of Army's 12 assists in the set.
