Black Knights Leap Past Lafayette

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point volleyball team defeated Lafayette 3-1 Friday night at Gillis Field House. The Black Knights claimed the first two sets and bounced back to clinch in the fourth set.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND MATCH NOTES
- Haven Bethune dished out 57 assists on the night and added two service aces.
- Carolyn Bockrath led both sides with 26.5 points and had a .455 hitting percentage.
- Amber Clay added 17 kills on the night with a .407 hitting percentage and 12 digs for a double-double.
- Vanessa Wesley tallied 10 kills on 15 attempts and hit .533 on the night.
- Ellie Petersen had 20 digs in the match, while Allie Strong added 13 and Maggie Petersen had 11.
- The Black Knights held an 8-3 block advantage on the night and 70-40 kill advantage.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE (25-20 ARMY)
- The Leopards jumped ahead 19-12 in the set, but a 13-1 run by the Black Knights clinched the set 25-20.
- Army was led by Bockrath who hit .800 and had nine kills
- Nine assists on the set were from Bethune and E. Petersen had seven digs.
SET TWO (25-16 ARMY)
- The Black Knights continued their run into the second set to lead 17-4. This means across two sets Army went 30-5 over the Leopards.
- Bethune produced 16 of Army's 17 assists in the set. Bockrath recorded eight kills, while Clay had four.
- Clay and E. Petersen each added four digs.
SET THREE (28-26 LAFAYETTE)
- Lafayette stuck with the Black Knights in the third set and overtook them late to win.
- Army committed eight errors to the Leopards' four which was a difference maker in the extended frame.
- Bethune stayed strong for the Cadets with 15 assists and Clay totaled six kills.
SET FOUR (25-13 ARMY)
- Army was determined to close-out the Leopards and once it took the lead, never lost it.
- 20 of the Black Knights' points were produced by Army, while the remaining five were due to Lafayette errors.
- Wesley charged into the game with six kills in the final set.
- Bethune recorded all of Army's 17 assists and notched a service ace.
