Black Knights Set for Weekend Series in Pittsburgh

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Following an off weekend from competition, the Army West Point hockey team returns to road action Friday and Saturday with two games at Robert Morris. Both games will begin at 7:05 p.m. from Colonials Arena.

ARMY (2-0-0, 2-0-0 Atlantic Hockey)
- The Black Knights and Colonials have faced each other 20 times before in a series that dates back to 2010.
- It is the second season in a row that Army and RMU have faced off in Pittsburgh.
- During its short break, the Black Knights had many highlights to the week.
- First, Army received votes in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/Hockey Magazine National Polls, while Michael Wilson and Cole Bruns received AHA Player and Goalie of the Week nods, respectively.
- Then, the team welcomed Anthony Scancarello to the squad through the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation.
- Finally, the Atlantic Hockey Association announced the naming of its new tournament championship trophy as the Jack Riley Memorial Trophy.
ROBERT MORRIS (1-2-0, 1-2-0 Atlantic Hockey)
- The Colonials enter the weekend with a 1-2-0 mark overall and in AHA play.
- RMU began the season with an overtime, 4-3, loss to Niagara and split last weekend's series with Canisius.
- Brady Ferguson is the team's top scorer and is the only Colonial with multiple goals.
- Both of his goals were on the power play, while assisting on the team's other power play goal.
LAST WEEK: BIG THINGS FOR ARMY
- The Black Knights had a hot start to the season with 5-1 and 2-1 victories at AIC two weekends ago.
- Army featured seven goal scorers and 11 individuals who posted at least one point.
- Wilson led the way with four points on a goal and three assists. He and his linemates, Tyler Pham and Dominic Franco, combined for 10 points across the two contests.
- Bruns picked up the two wins and made 63 saves on the weekend.
HOT START
- The Black Knights sport an extremely balanced offense with seven players scoring each of the seven goals last weekend.
- Wilson led the way with three assists Friday night and a goal.
- Pham scored 13 seconds into the season to kick up Army's momentum.
- The Black Knights went on to net six more goals on the weekend.
- The 5-1 win on Friday was Army's largest margin of victory in a season opener since 2001-02 when the Black Knights defeated Seneca by an identical score.
FRIENDS OF JACLYN
- The Army West Point hockey family welcomed its newest member as Anthony Scancarello was adopted by the Black Knights.
- Head coach Brian Riley officially welcomed Anthony, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at just six years old, into the hockey family with the signing of his letter to become the newest Black Knight.
- Anthony then posed for a team photo along with one with Jaclyn Murphy, the founder of the organization.
- The team then showed Anthony Tate Rink, their locker room and team room while chatting about common interests.
JACK RILEY MEMORIAL TROPHY
- The Atlantic Hockey Association announced the naming of its new trophy as the Jack Riley Memorial Trophy.
- Riley still holds the record for the most wins in Army coaching history across all sports.
- He is still the only coach to eclipse 500 wins on the banks of the Hudson.
- Riley was West Point's hockey coach from 1951-1986 and boasts a 542-343-20 mark in his career and won Team USA's first hockey gold medal when he was the head coach in 1960.
- He was named the NCAA Coach of the Year on two occasions in 1957 and 1960, and was part of the inaugural class of Army's Hall of Fame.
NATIONAL RECOGNITION
- For the last two weeks, the Army West Point hockey team has had a presence in national polls.
- The Black Knights received votes for the past two USCHO.com National Polls, while also receiving recognition in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine National Poll after Army's wins over AIC.
