Women’s Basketball Begins Road Trip at Loyola

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's basketball team starts a two-game trip away from West Point on Sunday, Jan. 8, with a game in Baltimore, Md., against Loyola at 2 p.m. The meeting will be the first between the schools since Army defeated Loyola in last year's Patriot League title game, 69-51.

STORYLINES
Sophomore Madison Hovren notched her third straight double-double on Thursday against Lafayette and now has nine on the season. Her nine double-doubles rank fifth nationally and she is one of just four players across Division I to average at least 20.0 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game (21.1 points per game, 10.3 rebounds per game). Army enters the weekend ranking in the top 10 nationally in three categories. The Black Knights stand third in turnovers forced (24.50), fifth in turnover margin (+9.07), and sixth in steals per game (13.3).
THE ARMY-LOYOLA SERIES
The Black Knights lead the Greyhounds, 8-4, in an all-time series dating back to Nov. 23, 2008. Army has won seven straight against Loyola, with its seven-game winning streak starting in 2013-14, when Loyola joined the Patriot League.
ARMY (11-3, 2-1 PATRIOT LEAGUE)
• Army managed a 76-73 victory in triple over against Lafayette on Thursday. The Black Knights came back to win from a season-high nine-point deficit.
• Hovren tallied her ninth double-double of the season, with a career-best 35 points and 10 rebounds. The double-double was her third in a row.
• Junior Janae McNeal added a season-high 15 points and sophomore Jess Lewis scored 8 points.
• The triple-overtime game was the second such contest in Army women's basketball history, with the first coming against Navy on March 1, 2003. It was only the third triple-overtime game in Patriot League women's basketball history.
• Hovren became the first Army player to score at least 35 points in a game since Kelsey Minato (USMA '16) netted 37 at Lafayette on Dec. 31, 2014.
LOYOLA (6-8, 2-1 PATRIOT LEAGUE)
• Loyola defeated Lehigh, 62-58, at home on Thursday to improve to 2-1 in Patriot League competition.
• Bri Betz-White leads the Greyhounds with 14.8 points per game, while Stephanie Karcz paces the team with 5.9 rebounds per contest.
• Army and Loyola both have wins over Lafayette and Lehigh, while the Black Knights lost to Bucknell and the Greyhounds fell against American.
