Women’s Basketball Slips Up at Loyola

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Army West Point women's basketball team trimmed an early 18-point deficit down to three points midway through the fourth quarter, but couldn't come all the way back during a 71-62 loss to Loyola in Patriot League action on Sunday afternoon at Reitz Arena.
Army slips to 11-4 overall and 2-2 in the Patriot League, while Loyola moves to 7-8 and 3-1.
Sophomore Madison Hovren posted her fourth consecutive double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. The double-double was her 10th of the season. Junior Aliyah Murray added nine points off the bench, and classmate Janae McNeal contributed eight points, eight rebounds and four assists. Juniors Lena' Hicks and Daizjah Morris each totaled seven points.
Lauren Daugherty netted a game-high 31 points for Loyola, while Stephanie Karcz chipped in 15 points. Bri Betz-White scored 11 points and Lisa Mirarchi added 10 points and seven rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Loyola outscored Army, 20-5, in the opening quarter, as the Greyhounds shot 47.4 percent (9-of-19) and the Black Knights went for 15.3 percent (2-of-13) from the floor during the period.
- Loyola opened the game on an 18-2 run, until sophomore Jess Lewis buried a three-pointer with 28 seconds left in the first quarter.
- Betz-White converted a runner with one second left in the period to put the hosts up, 20-5, after one.
- The Black Knights got the Greyhound lead down to 14 by halftime, as they trailed, 34-20.
- Hovren and Lewis each had six points at the half to lead Army.
- The Cadets used a 20-12 run during the first 8:13 of the third quarter to get back to within six, 46-40.
- Daizjah Morris hit a driving lay-up as time expired in the third period to make the score 49-44, in favor of Loyola.
- Hovren made baskets to cut the deficit to three on two occasions, doing so at the 6:55 mark of the fourth quarter, 51-48, and again with 6:03 remaining, 53-50.
- The Greyhounds netted the game's next six points to boost their advantage to nine points, 59-50.
- Daizjah Morris knocked in a triple with 2:12 remaining to make the score 63-58 before Murray went 1-for-2 at the foul line to bring the score to 63-59 with 1:29 left.
- The Cadets didn't come any closer as the hosts closed out the game, 8-2.
