Epps Scores in Army’s Win Over Sacred Heart
September 27, 2016 | Men's Soccer
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Freshman Rex Epps netted his team-leading fifth goal of the season on Tuesday night to help the Army West Point men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Sacred Heart in a nonconference match at Campus Field.
With the victory, the Black Knights have two wins in a row for the first time this season and improve to 4-3-1, while the Pioneers fall to 2-5-2.
Epps scored the game winner in the 12th minute on an assist from senior Nick Williams. Freshman Justin Stoll was credited with five saves for his second consecutive shutout, including stopping a penalty shot just 1:38 into the match.
"They have really begun to gel and have figured out to make each other better," said head coach Russell Payne on the tandem of Epps and Williams. "I think they enjoy playing together and they give us the ability to be a goal-dangerous team at any moment.
"Justin played really well in goal again today," Payne continued. "He saved a penalty kick early in the first half and he followed up his performance last game with another strong performance today."
