Men’s Soccer in Action Twice This Week

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's soccer team opens competition this week on Tuesday, Sept. 23 when it faces Sacred Heart in Fairfield, Conn., at 5 p.m. before returning home to face Lafayette in a Patriot League match on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m.

Army owns a 6-1-2 all-time advantage against Sacred Heart, including a 3-2 win over the Pioneers last season at West Point.
The Black Knights are 17-14-13 in their series with Lafayette, but the Leopards took a 1-0 win in Easton, Pa., last season. The Army-Lafayette series has seen only two goals scored in the last five meetings, with Lafayette's 1-0 win last year and Army's 1-0 victory in 2014. Prior to that, the sides played to three straight 0-0 draws.
ARMY (3-3-1, 1-0-0 PATRIOT LEAGUE)
• Army got back to .500 on the season, and improved to 1-0 in the Patriot League, with a 1-0 defeat of Navy on Sept. 23 at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pa.
• Freshman Keenan O'Shea scored the game's only goal in the 67th minute and was selected as Patriot League Midfielder of the Week for his efforts.
• Freshman keeper Justin Stoll made three saves in his second start of the season and posted Army's first shutout of 2016.
• Freshman Rex Epps and senior Nick Williams lead the Black Knights offensively, with four goals and three goals, respectively.
SACRED HEART (2-4-2, 0-0-0 NORTHEAST)
• Sacred Heart comes into Tuesday's match on a three-game unbeaten streak, including a 1-1 tie against Stony Brook in its last outing on Sept. 24.
• Kieran Walsh provided the goal for the Pioneers in the Stony Brook game, finding the back of the net in the 17th minute.
• Sacred Heart's Shaquille Saunchez leads the team with five goals, while Ermir Celaj has two.
• The Pioneers are 1-1-1 at home this season, with the only win coming over Holy Cross (3-1) on Sept. 21.
LAFAYETTE (3-5-0, 0-1-0 PATRIOT LEAGUE)
• Lafayette fell to a 2-0 home setback to Loyola in its Patriot League opener on Sept. 24.
• Prior to the Loyola game, the Leopards had won three in a row, with victories over Fordham, Yale and La Salle.
• Evan Vare is Lafayette's only multi-goal scorer this season, with four goals.
• Lafayette travels to play Fairleigh Dickinson on Sept. 27 before facing Army on Saturday.
