Lafayette Shuts Out Men’s Soccer

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Lafayette posted a 2-0 Patriot League win over the Army West Point men's soccer team to end the Black Knights' four-game unbeaten streak on Saturday afternoon at Clinton Field.
The Black Knights drop their first Patriot League match of the season, falling to 4-4-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the conference, while the Leopards improve to 5-5-0 and 1-1-0.
Lafayette grabbed an early 1-0 advantage when Evan Vare scored his league-leading sixth goal of the season on a penalty kick in the ninth minute. The visitors doubled their lead with another set-piece goal, this time coming off a free kick from Ryan Egan in the 57th minute.

- Army falls to Lafayette for the second year in a row to drop to 17-15-13 in the all-time series between the schools.
- Freshman Justin Stoll earned his third consecutive start and made four saves, with two coming in each half.
- Stoll posted a pair of big saves in the 49th minute, first stopping a shot on a breakaway from Egan before saving a chance through traffic by Adam Bramson.
- The Black Knights outshot their opponent 15-11, including an 8-6 advantage in shots on target.
- Along with Stoll, seniors Christian Clark and Tanner Vosvick, junior Marcos Arroyo, and freshman Zac McGraw were on the field for the full 90 minutes.
- Army's shutout loss comes following two straight 1-0 shutouts by the Black Knights.
- The Cadets were held scoreless for the second time this season.
KEY MOMENTS
- Lafayette goalkeeper Brad Seeber made a pair of key saves as Army threatened to tie the game at 1-1 in the first half. Seeber stopped a shot from Army senior Nick Williams in the 15th minute, after Williams sent a bouncing header on frame that was knocked over the crossbar by Seeber.
- The Lafayette keeper stopped Williams for a second time in the 22nd minute, as Williams dribbled quickly down the right wing and Seeber came out to challenge and make a sliding save.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vare buried a penalty shot in the left side of the net following an Army foul in its own 18-yard box in the ninth minute.
- Egan scored on a free kick from close to 30 yards out, beating Stoll on the right side to give the Leopards a 2-0 lead.
