Volleyball Sweeps Delaware State

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point volleyball team bounced back Saturday afternoon to defeat Delaware State, 3-0, winning its second match of the West Point Invitational.

- Amber Clay led the Black Knights with nine kills and 11 digs. She also added a service ace, an assist and a block assists in the match.
- Olivia Fairfield recorded a career-high hitting percentage (.545) in the three setter off six kills on 11 attempts. The senior captain also compiled a match-leading three service aces and two blocks. Sydney Morriss was also successful at the net and notched seven kills and two blocks.
- Carolyn Bockrath returned to Army's starting lineup after missing the first portion of the season due to an injury. She had four kills and was followed by Vanessa Wesley with three.
- Nikki Lum started in the setter's position and amassed 17 assists and six digs. Haven Bethune stepped in during the third set to tally five helpers and Ellie Petersen totaled four assists in the match along with five digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delaware State stayed in the first set with Army. With the Black Knights leading 14-11, they padded their lead with a 3-0 run.
- Army then went ahead 20-15 over the Hornets with a kill from Bockrath from Lum. Morriss and Lum connected to give the Cadets a 23-20 advantage before an ace from Lum and a net violation by Delaware State gave the Black Knights the set.
- The second set was tied up at 8-all before Army could gain momentum and pull away from the Hornets. With Nikki Lum on the serve the Black Knights went on a 4-0 run bookended by kills from Clay.
- The Cadets went on another run with six-straight points with points coming from Fairfield, Morriss and Bockrath. Delaware State chipped away at Army's lead however and achieved 18 points before the Black Knights clinched the set (25-17) with kills from Courtney Horace, Lum and Clay.
- After trailing the Hornets for most of the third set, the Cadets utilized errors caused by Delaware State to take a 16-14 lead. Clay kicked off Army's ascent to victory with a kill from Haven Bethune before Fairfield recorded a service ace to increase the Black Knights' lead to 18-15.
- The set remained close, but Army maintained its lead. Wesley notched the team's 20th point to give them a 20-17 advantage which was followed by a kill by Morriss and a block from the pair.
- Wesley then posted two-straight points for Army with a solo block and a kill off a free ball at the net to set the Cadets up for match point. The Hornets tallied an error to close-out the match.

- The Black Knights will close-out the West Point Invitational with a match against Albany at 5 p.m.
