Volleyball Prepares for West Point Invitational

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point volleyball returns to Gillis Field House as the team hosts the West Point Invitational this Friday and Saturday. The Black Knights are looking to continue its six-match streak as Albany, Delaware State, St. John's, UConn travel to the banks of the Hudson.

THE DETAILS
- The Black Knights are 7-4 overall this season and enter the weekend riding a six-match winning streak. Army won the Dartmouth Tournament last weekend and defeated Marist Tuesday night to continue the streak. It was also the sixth match that was decided in three straight sets.
- After an outstanding play by firstie captain Olivia Fairfield over the weekend, the Army West Point volleyball team garnered national attention. The play was nominated for the NCAA Volleyball Play of the Week alongside the Hero Sports DI Volleyball Play of the Week. (Vote for the play here)
- Allie Strong has continued to stand out for the Cadets and has captured Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors the past two weeks. She was also tabbed the Dartmouth Tournament MVP and AAA Athlete of the Week after leading the team with 43 kills and averaging 3.58 per set.
- Sydney Morriss (.366) and Vanessa Wesley (.346) have also been a constant for Army's offense and rank one-two in the league in hitting percentage.
- Army will begin a new series with Delaware State, while continuing its rivalry against Albany and UConn.
ALBANY
- The Great Danes enter the weekend with a 3-6 record. Chloe Evering leads Albany with a 3.06 kills per set and 101 total kills. Mikala McCauley and Kelly Cameron have split time at the setter position with a 7.94 and 6.79 assists per set average.
- The all-time series record between Army and Albany dates back to 1978, the inagural season for the Cadets. They hold a 4-2 advantage.
DELAWARE STATE
- Delaware State is currently 0-9 and picked up its first set of the season last weekend against Wofford. Sabina Szmajduch is the only Hornet that averages over 2.0 kills per set and has tallied 56 kills.
- It will be the first time the Black Knights and Hornets face one another.
ST. JOHN'S
- St. John's resides at 8-2 on the year and won its first seven matches. Julia Cast averages 3.59 kills per set with 122 total kills, while Erica Di Maulo leads the squad with a .351 hitting percentage.
- Army and the Red Storm will not face each other in this weekend's tournament, but the all-time series between the two is tied at 1-all.
UCONN
- The Huskies enter the weekend with a 7-1 mark and have won their last four matches. Kayla Williams leads UConn with 3.58 kills per set and 3.88 points per set. Hayley Cmajdalka is hitting .465 this year with 60 total kills.
- The all-time record is tied between UConn and Army at 7-7 and began in 1981.
