Volleyball Renews Rivalry with Marist

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Riding a five match winning streak, the Army West Point volleyball team will take a break from tournament play when it travels to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., for a cross-town matchup against rival Marist. The match will begin at 7 p.m. from the McCann Arena.

- The Black Knights enter the mid-week matchup with a 6-4 record after going undefeated at the Dartmouth Tournament. The Cadets clinched the tournament title as Allie Strong was named the Most Valuable Player and Vanessa Wesley was given an All-Tournament nod.
- Strong accumulated 43 kills for the Black Knights over the weekend as they won all four matches in three-straight sets. The freshman averaged 3.58 kills per set and added 30 digs, six blocks and six service aces.
- Wesley also contributed to Army's offense with 2.83 kills per set and a .371 hitting percentage. Sydney Morriss led the team by hitting .490 on the weekend. Olivia Fairfield sparked the Cadets' defensively with 15 total blocks to average 1.25 per set.
- This season, Morriss (.345) and Wesley (.344) lead the Patriot League in hitting percentage. Amber Clay is sixth in the league in kills per set with 2.94 (106 total).Â
- Fairfield (0.92) and Welsey (0.81) stand in the eighth and ninth slots for blocking in the conference, while Haven Bethune is this amongst setters with an average of 8.82 assists per set.Â
THE RIVALRY
- The Army-Marist rivalry began back in 1982 when the two teams met at the U.S. Military Academy invitational for a best of three contest. The Black Knights won 2-0 and the program has evolved to lead the all-time series 33-4.
- The Cadets lead 3-2 against Marist in the last five contests, but the Red Foxes have captured the last two matches opposite Army.
