May 06, 2016 | Softball
WEST POINT, N.Y. – In the final weekend of regular season play, the Army West Point softball team will play host to Lafayette Saturday and Sunday for the three-game series. The first pitch for both Saturday and Sunday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Â
Army enters its final weekend of regular season games riding a five-game winning streak. The Black Knights swept their last two opponents to tie the program's regular season wins record with 35. Lafayette resides at 12-30 on the season and 2-13 in the League with its two wins coming over Holy Cross.
Â
The Black Knights downed Hartford Tuesday by scores of 7-0 and 3-2 to wrap up its non-league schedule. Caroline Smith pitched the first no-hitter of her career in the first game of the twinbill and was one play away from having the perfect game.
Â
Renee Poirier notched save number 11 of the season Tuesday in the nightcap. The freshman leads the nation in saves and is one away from tying the Army and Patriot League single-season saves record as a rookie.
Â
Kasey McCravey now tops the league in batting average. She is hitting .409 off a league-leading 72 hits and has scored 58 runs.
Â
The Cadets will honor three first class cadets on Sunday for Senior Day. McCravey, Bernie Cardon, Hanna Rozzi and team manager Ted Hoel will all be recognized prior to the game for their commitment to the program.
Â
Army will be wearing teal helmet decals for Saturday's doubleheader in support of the "It's On Us" campaign. For the second year, the U.S. Corps of Cadets and the U.S. Military Academy have supported the President's national campaign. "It's On Us" has partnered with colleges and organizations from across the nation in an effort to raise awareness and build a culture of eliminating sexual violence on our campuses and in our communities.
