Softball Heads to Hartford for Twinbill

WEST POINT, N.Y. – With 33 wins under its belt, the Army West Point softball team will take on Hartford in the final non-conference doubleheader of the season Tuesday afternoon. Game one is set to begin at 3 p.m. from the Hartford Softball Field.

The Black Knights picked up two non-conference wins last Saturday with a sweep over Manhattan. The Black Knights shut out the Jaspers 5-0 in game one before downing them 3-2 in the second game of the doubleheader.

The Cadets reached win 33 to mark just the second time in program history that a team has done so in the regular season. Army amassed 35 regular season wins back in 2012 and finished the year with a 37-21 record. This season, the Cadets are hitting over .300 for just the second time in program history. This team's squad is batting at .307, while the record is .306 set by the 2005 team.

Army also had a 4-3 win over Patriot League foe Colgate last Thursday to win the series that began in early March, 2-1. The Black Knights reside at second in league standings with an 11-4 record and a .733 winning percentage and have clinched a berth in the Patriot League tournament.

Throughout last week's games, Taylor Gaff hit .571 after going 4-for-7. Emily Gray recorded a batting average of .500 after driving in three off five hits for the Cadets. Kasey McCravey totaled seven bases and three RBI last week, while also scoring four runs.

Renee Poirier picked up save number 10 in the nightcap against Manhattan and now ranks No. 1 nationally in saves. The freshman also pitched the complete, 8-inning, game against Colgate to earn her eighth win of the season. Poirier recorded an ERA of 0.78 last week and held her opponents to a .270 batting average.

Caroline Smith tallied another win and recorded four strikeouts last week. In career stats, she is tied for fourth with 36 career wins and seventh in innings pitched with 422.1. Kristen West has eclipsed 14 wins on the season to crack the single-season chart. In her career, she boasts 27 wins to rank 10th all-time.

Hartford enters today's contest with a 3-39 overall record and with a 2-12 mark in America East play. The Hawks are coming off a three-game series loss to Maine. Jenice Aloyo leads Hartford with a .276 batting average. She has tallied 34 hits on the year and 40 total bases. Danielle DeMarco has a team-leading 18 RBI and is closely followed by Peyton Fisher who has 13.

Army returns home for its final regular season Patriot League series as it hosts Lafayette Saturday and Sunday. The team will honor three first classmen on Sunday during a senior day celebration prior to the 1 p.m. start.
