WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's track and field team makes a trip down south to compete in the Lou Onesty Abramson/Milton G. Abramson Invitational on Saturday, April 9. The combined event is hosted by the University of Virginia and will begin at 2:00 p.m.

The Black Knights are coming off a narrow loss on Senior Day to archrival Navy. The Midshipmen won 103-100 in a thrilling finish in which the final event, the 4x400 meter relay, was decided by .04 seconds in favor of the Mids.

"They have to be ready to go on their own," Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Mike Smith stated. "They are good at being realistic and rebounding. It doesn't mean we will have the same energy we did for the dual meet. But we have another purpose. Our purpose is getting ready for the conference meet and continuing to make progress."

The quartet of Haley Winters, Cassie Mundekis, Whidney Desormo, and Sydney Hawkins bested the old meet record of 3:51.37 with a time of 3:49.72. Winters also won the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.93 while Hawkins won the 400 meter dash with the ninth-best time in Academy history (56.76).

Meagan Hilla also had a strong day overall. She was Army's best competitor in the high jump (1.64 meters), triple jump (11.26 meters), and the 100 meter hurdles (15.25).

"Everything is a progression," said Smith. "Every step you take along the way is some sort of improvement in volume or adjustment in the intensity."
