WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's track and field team will be competing in the Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson Invitational Performance List hosted by Virginia on Saturday. The meet is set to begin at 2 p.m. with the 110 meter hurdles.
HOW TO FOLLOWArmy last competed in the annual Star Match last weekend. The Black Knights fell to Navy by the score of 119-84.
Multiple Black Knights had strong showings. Kenneth Brinson earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors with a win in hammer throw (59.00 meters) and placing second in the discus throw (50.25 meters). Both throws were season-bests for him.
"We should get better by week as we go through the outdoor season," said Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Mike Smith. "We will get better whether it's in training or competition. One way or another, these kids are making progress towards the end point."
Lee Bares added a good day in the field as he set the Star Match record in pole vault with a throw of 5.07 meters.
Jose Santana was a part of the 4x100 meter relay team that set a new Academy and meet record with a time of 40.44, besting the previous meet record by nearly three tenths. Santana also placed second in the 400 meter dash with a personal-best time of 47.68.
"I think we're getting better as we go forward," said Smith. "If you look at what we did at Army-Navy, there were a lot of marks that were the best marks of the year. Our people will compete well and the marks will come from good competition. We'll just continue to raise the bar."
