Army enters the weekend sporting a 10-18 record while going 1-3 in the Patriot League. Bucknell sits atop the league standings with a 3-1 mark and is 12-18 overall.
The Black Knights began league play last week by hosting Lafayette for a weekend series. After dropping Saturday's doubleheader, Army took the series finale, 9-3, on Sunday to prevent the weekend sweep. Freshman Josh White led the team to a season-high 18 hits in the win after a 4-for-5 performance at the dish which included his second home run of the season. Jon Rosoff and Keegan Vega added three hits in the game while Stu Schley accounted for a couple of hits as well. Vega and Rosoff lead the team in hits in league action with six apiece, with Vega having the advantage in batting average at .545.
Freshmen Daniel Burggraaf and Jacob Carte contributed to the team's first win at home this season on the mound. Burggraaf threw six strong innings, allowing two unearned runs on seven scattered hits while striking out eight without issuing any walks for his first-collegiate victory. Carte closed the door in the final three innings to earn his first-career save. The Charlotte, N.C., native allowed an unearned run on one hit, one walk and three strikeouts.
The Bison took a 3-1 series victory over Lehigh to open their Patriot League slate last weekend, dropping the second game on Saturday. Brett Smith has been a spark plug for Bucknell as the league-leader in hits (46), triples (seven) and total bases (67). His .362 average ranks second in the Patriot League. Their pitching effort has been captained by Mike Castellani, who leads the team in wins with three in seven starts.
