Softball Hosts Jaspers for Non-League Doubleheader

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Coming off a 4-3 win over Colgate in eight innings, the Army West Point softball team is set to host non-conference foe Manhattan for a doubleheader at the Softball Complex Saturday afternoon. The games between the teams will begin at 1 and 3 p.m.

The Black Knights fell to Marist 9-8 Tuesday under the lights at the Softball Complex before bouncing back to defeat Colgate Thursday evening.
Kristen McPeek notched her first grand slam of the season against the Red Foxes when she punched the ball over the left field fence.
Against Colgate, the Cadets took an early 2-0 lead, but the Raiders fought back to push the game into extra innings. Army scored in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by Kasey McCravey which sent Tyler McKinney home for the go-ahead run.
Renee Poirier picked up the win opposite Colgate after pitching the complete game with five strikeouts. She now totals 65 on the year and has held her opponents to a .232 batting average.
The Jaspers swept Fairfield Thursday by scores of 3-0 and 3-1 to continue on a four-game winning streak.
Elena Bowman is hitting .371 to lead Manhattan. She also boasts a .714 slugging percentage, a .556 on base percentage and a team-high 30 RBI.
Erin Hamm has gone 6-2 from the circle with an ERA of 2.50. Briana Matazinsky has also split time this year as she is 8-6 with a team-high 67 strikeouts.
The Black Knights and Jaspers last met in 2010 when the teams split. Army took the first game 4-2 then fell 3-0 in game two. The Cadets lead 22-8 in the all-time series.
