PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Army West Point men's track and field team saw a pair of relay teams post quality performances on Friday afternoon on the second day of the Penn Relays.
"We entered some events here with the intent of getting in some competitive work in advance of the conference meet but the weather has not been conducive to fast times or good marks," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mike Smith.
The 4x100 Meter Relay team of junior Jose Santana, sophomore Tyler Davis, and freshmen Ben Sims and Kevin Dyer posted a qualifying time of 41.14. It was good enough for 13th out of 77 groups today and they will run in the finals tomorrow.
"Our time is not all that impressive but it was in cold and wet conditions," said Smith. "Our handoffs were much improved today and the guys competed well. It will be a competitive event tomorrow and we will need to run faster to win the college section, but we are certainly capable of doing that."
Senior Stevyn Spees, junior John Monday, and freshman Mikey Singer and Zach Brehm ran the Distance Medley Relay in a time of 10:06.45, placing 12th.
The Black Knights will finish up at the Penn Relays tomorrow starting in the morning with the Javelin Throw.
