Softball to Complete Series at Colgate

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point and Colgate softball teams are set to complete the three-game series Thursday afternoon in Hamilton, N.Y., after a snowstorm postponed the first meeting between the two earlier this month. The Black Knights and Raiders split the doubleheader as Colgate took the first game, 2-1, and the Cadets stole game two by a score of 7-4.

Army has continued to excel since the first meeting with the Raiders, winning 10 of its last 14 games to improve to 30-17 overall and 10-4 in the league. Colgate on the other hand has gone 4-10 in the last 14 contests to stand at 8-26 on the season and 3-8 in conference play.

Co-captains Alee Rashenskas and Kasey McCravey have been leading the Black Knights on both sides of the ball this season and rank first and second in most statistical categories. Rashenskas has been a consistent hitter with a .400 batting average, and leads the team in triples with two. She has also seen success in hits (62), doubles (9), RBI (30), total bases (75), stolen bases (25) and slugging percentage (.484).

McCravey has gone 63-for-159 for a .396 average and leads the Black Knights in hits (63), doubles (10), RBI (31), total bases (90) and slugging percentage (.566). She has also broken the single season runs record with 51. This duo has been strong for Army defensively as well with over 100 assists apiece.

In conference play, Rashenskas is hitting .438, while McCravey resides at .422 to lead the Cadets to 10 league wins, the most since the 2013 season.

Army's pitching staff consists of Renee Poirier who has struck out 60 batters and leads the team with a 2.21 ERA and nine saves, Kristen West who is 13-3 from the rubber and Caroline Smith who has a conference ERA of 1.94. This trio has held league batters to a .257 batting average.

The Raiders' lead batter, Katie Bushee, has amassed a .330 average with 36 hits and a team-high 15 RBI. She has also recorded 18 runs, 10 doubles, two triples and a home run for 53 total bases.

Kyle Griswold leads Colgate in the circle with a 3.91 ERA and 32 strikeouts. In conference games, she has held her opponents to a .246 batting average and has allowed just nine extra base hits.
