Women’s Rugby Finishes Fifth at Quinnipiac 7s
April 02, 2016 | Women's Rugby
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Army West Point women's rugby team opened its ACRA title defense with a fifth-place showing at the Quinnipiac 7s tournament after going 3-2 on Saturday.
"We were a few steps behind the better teams today," said head coach Bill LeClerc. "The girls did rally and finish with a strong performance in the plate final. Everyone now has a good idea of what is necessary to perform at a high level after not playing for five months. Next week we go to Brown and expect to do better."
The Black Knights opened with a 32-0 victory over Norwich B before getting blanked by Harvard, 30-0, and falling to AIC, 31-5. They rebounded with a pair of shutouts against West Chester and Dartmouth.
Lindy Clark led the way offensively, scoring 22 points on four tries and a conversion in the five games. The Seneca, S.C., native contributed 15 points in the Cadets 37-0 shutout over the Golden Rams. She produced one of two three try performances of the day as Becca Stipp did so in the opener against Norwich.
The Black Knights return to the pitch on Saturday, April 9, as they travel to Brown for the second tournament of the spring.
