LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Army West Point men's track and field team put up a number of top times on Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Bucknell Outdoor Classic. The Black Knights took advantage of superb weather conditions en route to fast times.
"We went into this meet hoping to improve our Patriot League seed marks and we accomplished that in a lot of areas with a lot of people," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mike Smith.
Tyler Davis posted multiple personal-bests. He ran the 100 meter dash in 10.70 seconds to place third, just ahead of his teammate Jose Santana who was fifth in a time of 10.76. In the 200 meter dash, Santana (21.58) bested Davis (21.76) as the two placed fourth and fifth, respectively. All four of those times were good enough for IC4A qualifying marks. Andre Vaughn also competed in the 100 meter dash and ran his personal-best (11.06) as he finished just .06 off the IC4A time.
Taylor Andrews was the Black Knights highest placing competitor on the men's side. He finished in second place in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.45. Ross Puritty placed sixth and finished in 14.85. Both reached the IC4A qualifying time while Nick Beavers was just three-hundredths of a second off the mark, placing eighth with a time of 14.93.
Beavers again narrowly reached the IC4A mark as he finished seventh in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 54.22, just .22 shy. Marcus Phillips, however, did qualify as he finished the event in fifth place (53.65), shattering his pervious personal-best of 54.13.
Ben Boswell was the last Cadet to achieve an IC4A qualifying time. His personal-best of 1:52.61 in the 800 meter run was good enough for 13th place.
Army will compete next weekend at the Larry Ellis Invitational beginning on Friday. Smith is satisfied with the way his team looks after today.
"Our men's team keeps getting better and better and the number of guys that can contribute at the conference meet keeps growing."
