Men’s Track and Field with Strong Day on Track

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Army West Point men's track and field found success on both the track and in the field on the first day of the Larry Ellis Invitational. Princeton is the host of the event that welcomes a large number of Division I schools.
Senior Tom Girardot placed ninth with a time of 9:03.72 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Junior Jacob Fong shattered his previous career-best time on his way to a 16th place finish. Fong completed the race in 9:13.21, nearly 20 seconds faster than his previous-best which came at this event last season.
Junior Trevor Touchton added a 17th place field in a large field running the 1500 meter run elite. Touchton completed the circuit in a personal-best 3:45.83.
Sophomore Michael Gabrielsen added a personal-best in the javelin throw as he reached 58.43 meters in the event, good enough for seventh among 26 throwers. Fellow sophomore Lee Bares competed in the pole vault a year after setting the meet record. His best vault today was 5.10 meters, placing him in fourth.
The men will pick-up action in the field at 11:00 a.m. with the shot put and on the track will begin at 12:15 p.m. with the 4x100 relay.
