Women’s Track to Honor Seniors Before Star Meet
March 31, 2016 | Women's Track and Field
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's track and field team will host its lone meet of the outdoor season as Navy comes to Shea Stadium for the annual Star Meet on Saturday. The field events are scheduled to start at 11 a.m., while the track events will start at 1 p.m.
The Black Knights will be honoring seven seniors at noon, including co-captain Lindsay Gabow, Megan Gemar, Madison Hill, Justine Rennekamp, Morgan Rennekamp, Cody Rothschild and co-captain Haley Winters.
Army holds a 9-5 advantage at West Point in the series, while trailing the Midshipmen in the overall outdoor series, 15-14. The Black Knights have won three of the last four meets against Navy, including the 2014 outdoor meet at Shea Stadium. The two service academy rivals have kept it close as of late with the greatest margin of victory in the past four meets being seven points.
Throughout the spring, the Cadets have been powered by their field events. Five of Army's nine individual champions this spring have come off the track, including two from sophomore thrower Briyah Brown. On Monday, the New Rochelle, N.Y., native was recognized as the Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week.
On the track, the Black Knights' youth has been vital. Highlighting that group has been freshman Abby Halbrook, who has garnered back-to-back Rookie of the Week honors from the Patriot League.
