League Play Begins at the Softball Complex

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point softball team returns home for its Patriot League opener Saturday and Sunday at the Army Softball Complex when the Cadets take on Boston University. Saturday's games will begin at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday's rubber game will start at 1 p.m.

The Black Knights totaled 11 hits and five RBI during their 5-3 win over Fairfield Wednesday evening in their home opener. The Cadets are on a four-game win streak, the longest this season.

Kristen West earned her ninth win of the season over the Stags. She pitched for six innings and only allowed two hits until the top of the sixth.

Renee Poirier stepped into the circle at the top of the seventh to pick up her fifth save of the season. The freshman had two strikeouts and got out of a bases loaded jam to clinch the game for Army.

Kasey McCravey led the team off with a home run Wednesday. She was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate, and tallied two RBI and two runs.

Boston U. enters the weekend with a 10-12 record and has recently defeated Binghamton, Providence, Southern Utah, Yale, UC Riverside and Southern Utah.

The Cadets have an unblemished 5-0 record against the Terriers. The two teams first met in 1990 when the Black Knights came away with two victories. Last season, Army swept the three-game series over Boston U. by scores of 4-0, 13-10 and 6-3.

Brittany Younan leads the Terriers offensively with a .378 batting average. She has recorded a team-high 28 hits and has 12 RBI on the season. From the circle, Lauren Hynes is 8-5 with an ERA of 2.16. She has thrown 69 strikeouts through 81.0 innings and has only given up 30 runs.
