Men’s Tennis Begins Patriot League Slate

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Patriot League play begins this weekend for the Army West Point men's tennis team. The Black Knights play host to Lafayette and Holy Cross on Saturday, March 26, beginning at 9 a.m. Army has won five straight matches to improve its record to 10-6. The Leopards currently stand at 1-7 overall and will also be competing in their first conference match of the season while the Crusaders are 0-2 with both losses coming to Patriot League teams.

LAST TIME OUT
The Black Knights won their fifth straight match with a 4-1 win against Division II Rollins. The win for head coach Jim Poling was his first against the he formerly coached to a Division II national title. Poling also grew up in Winter Park, Fla., where Rollins is located.
Sophomore Michael Nguyen has now won four straight singles matches. His record this spring stands at 8-3.
Junior Kyle Barnes and senior Austin McCasin improved to 8-2 in doubles play this season.
SCOUTING LAFAYETTE
Lafayette enters currently on a five-game slide. The Leopards competed in Florida earlier this week and failed to secure a single game losing by scores of 4-0 to Stetson, 7-0 against Bethune-Cookman, and 9-0 at Embry-Riddle.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS
The Crusaders began spring play last week with a pair of 7-0 losses to Boston University and Colgate. Dating back to the fall, Jimmy Ye has been the top player for Holy Cross. He owns a 1-2 record in the top singles flight and is 2-2 in all doubles matches.
SERIES HISTORY
Both series have been heavily tilted towards Army, specifically under the guidance of head coach Jim Poling. The Black Knights are 17-0 against Lafayette under Poling and 12-0 versus Holy Cross. All-time, the Black Knights are 39-3-2 when facing the Leopards and 19-0 when playing the Crusaders.
NEXT UP: Thursday, April 7 vs. Hartford & Marist – Patriot League Opener
Army has one last weekend off and follows with a non-conference doubleheader against Hartford and Marist before finishing conference play. The Hawks stand at 0-6 as of now while the Red Foxes are 8-3 including winning seven of their last eight contests.
