Softball Entertains Fairfield in Home Opener

WEST POINT, N.Y. – After going 4-1 last week, the Army West Point softball team will make its home debut at the Army Softball Complex where the Black Knights will host Fairfield in their home opener Wednesday, March 23 at 4 p.m.

PROGRAM • Army vs. Fairfield
Army went 4-1 last week with two mercy rule wins to improve to 14-11 overall. The Cadets defeated UMass Lowell along with Penn and Rider twice.
The Black Knights defeated Penn 13-0 which was their largest winning margin since romping over St. Peter's 21-2 in 2012. Army has won seven of its last 10 contests and is on a three-game win streak. They have also had three wins by mercy rule in a seven-day span.
Emily Gray led the team last week with a .647 batting average and was recognized by the Patriot League as the Player of the Week, and as the Patriot League Athlete of the Week by College Sports Madness.
Gray went 11-for-17 with a home run and four doubles to total six RBI. She also added seven runs for Army and didn't bat below .538 during the week.
Fairfield enters the mid-week tilt with a 9-9 record. The Stags have recently defeated North Dakota (14-3), Northern Kentucky (15-14) in 10 innings, Winthrop 4-1 and Stony Brook in two mercy rule victories.
Destinee Pallotto has been Fairfield's ace this season with an ERA of 3.27 with five wins and four losses in the circle. She has a team-high 41 strikeouts through 55.2 innings.
The Stags lead the Cadets in the all-time series 17-14 that dates back to Army's inaugural season in 1979. The teams last met in 2006 for a solo game where Fairfield won 9-8.
