Women’s Lacrosse Drops Road Contest at Winthrop

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Army West Point women's lacrosse team was unable to overcome a strong first half from Winthrop, as the Black Knights fell to a 13-5 defeat on Saturday afternoon at Eagle Field.
Army drops to 3-3 on the season, while Winthrop remains undefeated, improving to 8-0.
Sophomore Amy Johnston led the Black Knights with a pair of goals, while junior Erin Jollota and freshmen Nikki Polhamus and Rachel Treweeke each found the back of the net once.
Freshman Brittany Rinaldi added two assists and four ground balls and classmate Kayla Rowley made nine saves.
Kristen Shriver scored a game-high four goals for the Eagles, with all four of her tallies coming on free-position shots. Abigail Blevins tallied two goals and two assists and Shannon Gallagher contributed six ground balls and six caused turnovers. Alaina Girani made three saves to earn the win.
Winthrop scored first and took a 3-0 lead before Treweeke found the back of the net with 8:29 remaining in the first half to bring the Black Knights back to within two.
Four different Eagles scored during the last 4:31 of the opening half to send the hosts into the locker room with a 7-1 advantage.
Shriver netted Winthrop's first two goals of the second half, but Johnston and Polhamus had an answer each time, as the score stood 9-3 with 21:29 to play.
Johnston and Jollota scored goals seven seconds apart, with Jollota's marker coming with 2:27 remaining in the game, to make the score 12-5 before Winthrop's Danielle Ellis netted the contest's final tally 1:06 before the final whistle.
Army returns to action on Monday, March 14, when the Black Knights face Presbyterian at 11 a.m. in Clinton, S.C.
