Women’s Track Visits California for Outdoor Opener

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's track and field team travels to Irvine, Calif., for a pair of meets to open its 2016 spring season. The Black Knights will begin at UC Irvine's Anteater Four-Way on Saturday and will stay in the Golden State for the annual UC Irvine Spring Break Invitational on March 18-19.

Army is coming off a fourth-place finish at the Patriot League Indoor Championships in which three Cadets were individual champions. Senior Megan Gemar broke the Academy record in the pole vault, eclipsing the 6.90-meter bar. Sophomore Briyah Brown won her first individual Patriot League championship in the shot put with a mark of 14.23 meters. Freshman Cassie Mundekis cruised to her individual title with a time of 2:11.18, beating the field by nearly two seconds.

The Black Knights placed third at last season's Spring Break Invitational, trailing only UC Irvine and Northern Arizona while beating out Utah State, Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount and UC Riverside in that order.
