Women’s Tennis Hosts Threesome of Opponents

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's tennis team is now over halfway into its 19-game homestand to open the season and continues on by hosting Marist, Fordham, and NJIT this weekend. The Black Knights currently boast a 7-3 record. The Red Foxes enter with a 1-4 record for the matchup on Friday, Feb. 26, at 5 p.m., while the Rams are 1-1 in the spring. The Highlanders claim a 3-3 record heading into the doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 27, beginning at 10 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Army shutout Fairleigh Dickinson and Hartford 7-0 last weekend before losing to Rutgers, 5-2 . Freshman Kirby Einck was the only Black Knight to go undefeated across multiple singles and doubles matches over the weekend. She also was the only Cadet to have a singles victory against Rutgers and was instrumental in capturing the doubles point with a grueling tiebreaker victory. Einck has now won three-straight singles matches and five-straight doubles matches. She is 5-3 in singles play, 8-1 on the season in doubles, and 5-0 when paired with senior Carolyn Pitman. Pitman remains undefeated in the spring in doubles with a 7-0 record.
Sophomore Bridget Guenard earned victories against the Knights and Hawks before narrowly losing in her match against the Scarlet Knights. She lost 7-6, 1-6, 8-10. She is currently 7-2 in singles play this year.
SCOUTING MARIST
Marist has lost four-consecutive matches after a 7-0 win in the opener against Saint Peter's. Last weekend, the Red Foxes narrowly lost 4-3 to Providence before being shut out by Harvard 4-0.
Freshman Chloe Lant has been the best singles player in the early going. The England native is undefeated in singles this spring with a 3-0 record in the number three position.
SCOUTING FORDHAM
The Rams have played just twice over the last four weeks, splitting their matches against Drexel (Loss, 5-2) and NJIT (Win, 5-2). Last season, Fordham was 11-7 and lost to eventual Atlantic 10 champion VCU in the semifinals.
Sophomore Estelle Wong has moved into the top singles position for the Rams after earning Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors last year. She has won each of her singles matches to open the year.
SCOUTING NJIT
NJIT has lost two in a row after rattling off three-straight victories. The Highlanders are led by Nathalie Habegger in the top singles flight. The junior from Switzerland owns a 2-4 record after winning a team-high eight singles matches last year.
SERIES HISTORY
Fordham is the only one of the three opponents that the Black Knights faced in a dual meet last season. The Black Knights fell to the Rams 4-3. The series history favors Army, 18-17.
The Cadets are undefeated all-time against Marist. They have won all 18 matches against their opponent from across the river.
Army and NJIT have the shortest history among the group. The Black Knights are 5-2 against the Highlanders in a series that began in 2008.
NEXT UP: Friday, March 4 vs. Quinnipiac – 3 p.m.
The Black Knights welcome another trio next weekend with Quinnipiac coming to town first on Friday, March 4. The Bobcats are the defending MAAC Champions but have opened the season with two losses. The following day, Siena and Rhode Island visit West Point.
NEW VISITOR POLICY
New policies have been put in place regarding visitors to West Point. People using a driver's license from the states of Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico or Washington will have to use another approved form of identification in order to enter West Point and all other military installations, due to federal guidelines. If you possess a valid Department of Defense issued identification card, this new requirement does not affect your ability to enter military installations.
Acceptable alternate forms of identification are a U.S. passport, a permanent resident card/Alien Registration Receipt Card (form 1-551), a foreign passport with a temporary I-551 stamp or visa or an employment authorization document that contains a photograph (Form I-766).
