Men’s Track Set for Patriot League Championship

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's track and field team travels to the Boston University Track and Tennis Center for the 2016 Patriot League Indoor Championship meet this weekend from Friday, Feb. 19, to Sunday, Feb. 21.

STORYLINES
Army's last competition was a 107-74 road defeat against Navy. In the meet, four Cadets came away with individual victories. Freshman Ben Sims won the long jump at 7.15 meters while sophomore Lee Bares captured the pole vault victory at 5.10 meters. On the track, seniors Stevyn Spees and Mitch Dutton won their events in the 500-meter dash and 800-meter run, respectively. Spees' winning time in the 500 was 1:03.65 while Dutton's 1:52.18 in the 800 bested the field.
Following their off week, the Black Knights are looking to continue their tradition of success at the indoor Patriot League Championships.
ARMY AT THE PATRIOT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Army has won 14 of the possible 22 indoor Patriot League Championship meets since joining the conference in 1994, including 10-straight from '94 to 2003. The team's last championship came in 2010. Additionally, the Black Knights have never ranked lower than fourth, which is where they finished last season. In 2014, Jose Santana was named the Rookie of the Meet.

ARMY WEST POINT (0-1) NOTES
- Five top-10 marks have been set this season including a pair of No. 2 performances by Ben Sims and Lee Bares.
- Sims ran a 6.79 in the 60-meter dash at the Armory Invite on Jan. 30., and is now .02 seconds behind Santana's record.
- Bares continues to improve upon his second-best mark, which is now at 5.22 meters which he set at the Penn State National Invitational. He is now .02 meters away from Darrin Hinman's record set in 1997.
- 13 top-10 marks are held by current Black Knights.
