Davis Sits First in Heptathlon After Day One
February 19, 2016 | Men's Track and Field
BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Tyler Davis of the Army West Point men's track and field team kicked off the start of the 2016 indoor Patriot League Championships in the heptathlon with a bang. He currently sits at the front of the pack with 2813 points after four events from Boston University's Track and Tennis Center Friday afternoon.
"I thought Tyler did a nice job today," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mike Smith. "This is his first heptathlon, so we really didn't know how he would react to the transitions from one event to the next, but he has done a great job handling things."
The Cleveland, Tenn., native ran a 6.97 in the opening 60 meter dash, good enough to win the lone track event of the day. Davis went on to leap 6.62 meters in the long jump and 1.80 in the high jump. He finished second and seventh, respectively. In the shot put, day one's final event, Davis placed fourth with a toss of 11.36 meters.
The men's heptathlon will conclude on day two with the 60-meter hurdles, 1000-meter run and the pole vault. The rest of day two's field events include the weight throw, high jump and long jump. On the track, the second day will consist of the prelims and semifinals for the 60-meter dash and hurdles and the 200-meter dash prelims, the 5000-meter run, both seeded and unseeded, and the 4x800-meter relays.
