Men’s Basketball Takes on Navy in Annapolis

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's basketball team looks to win its fourth consecutive game on Saturday afternoon when it challenges Navy at Alumni Hall. The Black Knights and Midshipmen tip off on CBS Sports Network at 1:30 p.m.

Last time out, a career-high 25 points and 13 rebounds by Kevin Ferguson lifted the Army West Point men's basketball team to its third straight win and a 72-68 triumph over Holy Cross. Kyle Wilson scored 19 points on the strength of five three-pointers and Dylan Cox put in 10 points to go along with five assists. Jordan Fox also added five assists for the Black Knights in a 49.1 percent shooting performance (28-of-57). Army outrebounded Holy Cross 39-28 in the contest as Ferguson posted his fifth consecutive double-double.
The win improved Army to 16-11 on the season, including a 7-8 mark in Patriot League play, and clinched a winning regular season for the program.
Navy enters Saturday's game with a 9-6 Patriot League mark following a four-point setback to Lehigh on Monday night. Navy took the first meeting against Army 64-50 at West Point.
It was announced on Thursday that Army's regular season finale against Lehigh on Feb. 27 will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network. The senior day tilt against the Mountain Hawks will begin at noon.
Army has played 18 games with its regular starting lineup of Dylan Cox, Kyle Wilson, Plomb, Larry Toomey and Ferguson. In those games, Army is 12-6 and averages 82.3 points per game and outscores its opponents by 4.3 points per game. Cox has a 85-38 assist-to-turnover ratio, Wilson is scoring 17.4 points per game and Ferguson averages 13.4 points and 9.8 rebounds.
In the nine without its full complement of starters, Army's scoring drops to 71.4 points per game and the Black Knights are making 8.4 threes per game. The Black Knights are 4-5 in those games.
Tanner Plomb is averaging 20.3 points per game this season which leads the Patriot League and ranks 23rd in the nation. Kyle Wilson is fourth in the conference with an average of 16.7 points per game.
Together, Wilson and Plomb were the top scoring duo in the Patriot League last year with an average of 33.3 points per game. Wilson was first in scoring in the conference at 17.5 points per game, while Plomb ranked fourth overall with a 15.8 points per game average. Plomb and Wilson are the top scoring duo in the Patriot League in 2015-16 at 37 points per game.
In 2015-16, Army is outrebounding its opponents by an average of 3.4 boards per game. The last time an Army team had a rebounding margin of better than five per game was in 1970 (+5.3). Ferguson leads the Patriot League in rebounding with 9.1 boards per game. Ferguson is 14th in the country in offensive rebounds with a Patriot League-leading 3.87 per contest.
