Women’s Basketball Tops St. Francis Brooklyn

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's basketball team picked up its fifth win in a row, defeating St. Francis Brooklyn, 69-46, on Saturday afternoon at Christl Arena. Army also improved its home winning streak to 21 contests.
Army improves to 6-1 on the year after the victory, while St. Francis Brooklyn falls to 1-6.
Sophomore Madison Hovren finished with a game-high 17 points and 10 rebounds for her third straight double-double to led four Army scorers in double figures. Junior Janae McNeal reached double digits for the third game in a row and totaled 12 points, five assists and four steals, while classmates Destinee Morris and Lena' Hicks netted 11 points and 10 points, respectively.
Jade Johnson led St. Francis Brooklyn with nine points, and Olivia Levey tallied eight points and a game-high 13 boards.

- The Cadets extended their home winning streak to 21 games after the victory, with their last loss at Christl Arena coming in the Patriot League semifinals against Lehigh on March 9, 2015.
- Army also improved its regular-season home winning streak to 25 games, with the Black Knights' last regular-season home defeat coming against Navy on Jan. 10, 2015.
- The Black Knights begin the season 6-1 for the second straight year.
- Army now has at least six wins in its first seven games for the 10th time in team history.
- Army had four players score in double figures for the second game in a row, as Hovren (17 points), McNeal (12), Destinee Morris (11) and Hicks (10) all finished with at least 10 points.

KEY MOMENT
- After leading 32-21 at halftime, Army outscored St. Francis Brooklyn, 21-13, in the third quarter to move out to a 53-34 advantage heading into the fourth. Hicks and McNeal each scored six points in the third to lead the Cadets, while Hovren totaled five points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army forced turnovers on St. Francis Brooklyn's first three possessions, with the first two leading to steals and lay-ups at the other end for the Black Knights.
- The Cadets scored the first six points of the game and went on to lead, 14-4, by the 2:08 mark of the opening quarter, following back-to-back triples from Destinee Morris.
- The Terriers netted the last four points of the quarter to bring the score to 14-8 after one.
- St. Francis Brooklyn built its 4-0 run to 9-0 during an eventual 13-3 scoring stretch by the visitors that brought the game to a 17-17 tie with 6:44 left in the first half.
- The Black Knights responded with the next six points to regain the lead and move out to a 23-17 advantage with 5:08 left in the second period.
- Army outscored St. Francis Brooklyn, 9-4, during the last 4:44 of the second quarter to control a 32-21 lead at the half.
- The Cadets built their lead to 21 points, 51-30, after a pair of free throws from freshman Libby Tacka with 1:53 left in the third period.
- The visitors shot 4-of-4 at the stripe in the last 1:29 of the third, and McNeal hit a lay-up with 12 ticks left to send Army into the fourth quarter with a 53-34 lead.
- Army outscored St. Francis Brooklyn, 16-12, in the final frame, as the Black Knights held the Terriers to at least a 16-point deficit for the entire quarter.
