Army Sets Records in Star Meet Loss to Navy

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Several academy, pool and plebe records fell as the Army West Point men's swimming and diving team lost to Navy in the Star Match, 156.5-143.5, on Saturday afternoon at Crandall Pool.

"I want to credit Navy with a very strong performance. They swam really well today," stated head coach Mickey Wender. "I'm very proud of our team for their effort today. We came up a little bit short, but we made progress and competed hard against our rival."

MEET HIGHLIGHTS/NOTES
- The trio of Sean Regan, Johnny Ellery and Peter Mikheyev swept the top three spots in the 200 butterfly with marks of 1:45.85, 1:46.32 and 1:48.18, respectively. For Regan, it was an academy record, while Ellery posted a new plebe mark.
- Mikheyev also set an academy and pool record in winning the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:48.44.
- Tom Ottman won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:06.47. The sophomore also won the 500 freestyle by touching the wall in 4:26.09.
- Evin Rude posted a new academy record as he touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:36.77. Rude also tied for first in the 100 freestyle clocking in at 44.76 seconds.
- Josh Sembrano tied his own academy record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 48.39 seconds. Sembrano and Mike Stanchi went first and second in the 200 backstroke with marks of 1:46.90 and 1:47.22, respectively.
- Joe Daniels recorded an academy record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 53.35 seconds, while teammate Ty Dang broke the plebe record in 54.50 seconds.
- Ty Dang broke his own plebe record and set an academy record with a time of 1:56.05 in the 200 breaststroke. Dang broke a 29-year old academy record previously held by John VanSant.
- Junior Jason Rodriguez took home the top spot in the 100 butterfly with a time of 47.90 seconds.
- In the 1-meter diving portion of the meet, Bradley Buchter recorded a pool record with a final score of 344.25.
