Black Knights Suffer Overtime Setback to Tigers

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Army West Point hockey team fell to RIT 2-1 Saturday night in overtime. The Black Knights tied the score in the second period, but the Tigers scored 21 seconds into the overtime stanza to win the game and complete the sweep of the weekend series.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Army fell to 6-5-1, 6-4-1 AHA with tonight's overtime loss as RIT improved to 5-7-1, 5-5-0 AHA with the weekend sweep.
- Zach Evancho scored for Army at the end of the second period to tie the score at 1-1. It was the rookie's fourth goal of the season and seventh points of the year.
- Dominic Franco assisted on the tally to mark the fourth consecutive game that he has recorded a point. This is the longest streak of any Cadet this season.
- Tonight's game was the first overtime contest since the season opener on Oct. 1, the longest stretch (10 games) without Army seeing overtime since the 2014-15 season. It was also head coach Brian Riley's 83rd overtime contest in his tenure.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT took the first stab at scoring tonight and netted a goal with 6:44 remaining in the first period. The Tigers intercepted a pass behind Army's net to score the wraparound goal to go up 1-0.
- Halfway through the second stanza, Trevor Fidler smoked the crossbar in one of the Black Knights' true chances in the game.
- Then at the 17:24 minute mark, Evancho carried the puck up the ice on a 3-on-2 breakaway and slotted it to the top right to tie things up at 1-1.
- After the Tigers' had a substantial lead in shots in the first period, the Cadets outshot them 10-5 in the second which gave them the opportunities to even the score.
- The game went into overtime and the Tigers' Adam Brubacher netted the game winner just 21 seconds into the extra time to clinch the game for RIT.

- The Black Knights will take the Thanksgiving weekend off, but are back in action at Tate Rink Dec. 2-Dec. 3. Army hosts AIC on Friday night and Brown on Saturday with both games featuring 7:05 p.m. puck drops.
