Hicks, Hovren Lead Women’s Basketball Past Yale

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army's interior players led the way in a 59-55 win over Yale on Friday evening at Christl Arena. Junior Lena' Hicks posted the first double-double of her career with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore Madison Hovren finished with 19 points and nine boards.
Army improves to 2-1 this season with the victory, while Yale drops to 1-2.
Hicks shot 9-of-13 and added a career-best three blocks and Hovren went 7-of-12 from the floor. Sophomore Jess Lewis added eight points and junior Janae McNeal chipped in five.
Jen Berkowitz led the Bulldogs with 15 points and added nine boards, while Megan Gorman tallied eight points and 10 rebounds.
Eleventh-year head coach Dave Magarity earned his 200th victory at Army, improving to 200-109 after the win.

- The Black Knights improve to 5-0 in home openers over the last five seasons.
- The home win marks Army's 22nd straight regular-season win at Christl Arena, with its loss coming to Navy on Jan. 10, 2015.
- The victory is also the 18th straight home victory for the Black Knights in all games, including postseason action, with the last setback coming in the Patriot League semifinals against Lehigh on March 9, 2015.
- The Cadets improve to 26-14 in home openers and 8-3 in home openers under Magarity.
- Now in his 11th season at West Point, Magarity improves to 200-109 as Army's coach and moves to 513-443 overall.
KEY MOMENT
- Hovren knocked in a pair of free throws to give Army a 58-55 lead with 15.4 seconds left in the contest and added a third with 2.1 ticks left to give the hosts a 59-55 advantage.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army closed out the opening quarter with four unanswered points to command a 15-13 lead after one.
- The Black Knights extended that run to 9-0 after a three-pointer by Lewis and a lay-up from Hicks to start the second period. The hosts led 20-13 after the 4:11 scoring streak.
- Yale responded with a 13-4 run over the next 5:33 to move in front, 26-24. Mary Ann Santucci capped the run for the Bulldogs, with a triple at the 2:26 mark of the second frame.
- The Cadets came back to take a 27-26 lead, following a lay-in from junior Margaret Anne Hubbell and a free throw from junior Daizjah Morris, before Roxy Barahman sank a three from the left corner with 0.6 seconds on the clock to put the visitors up, 29-27, entering halftime.
- Hicks netted four points during a 7-0 Army run to begin the second half, giving the Black Knights a 34-29 advantage. Army's scoring run spanned the first 1:57 of the third quarter and was finished by a Hicks lay-up.
- The Cadets got their lead up to eight, 44-36, after a bucket by Hicks with 2:40 to play in the third period.
- Army's advantage was trimmed to five, 46-41, by the conclusion of the third quarter. Hicks finished with 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting and seven boards in the third frame alone.
- The Black Knights increased the lead to 48-41 before Yale scored six straight to pull back to a 48-47 deficit with 4:09 remaining in the fourth.
- Army scored the next four to build the lead to 52-47, but Yale came back to within one, 56-55, with 33 seconds left in the game.
- Hovren made three free throws in the final 15.4 seconds to close out the win for the Black Knights.
