UAlbany Outlasts Women’s Basketball, 65-59

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's basketball team cut a 14-point deficit down to one point late in the fourth quarter in an eventual 65-59 setback against UAlbany on Wednesday evening at SEFCU Arena.
Army slips to 1-1 on the season, while UAlbany earns its first win to improve to 1-2.
Sophomore Madison Hovren led the Black Knights in scoring for the second game in a row, finishing with a game-high 19 points, while junior Aliyah Murray posted her second career double-double with a career-best 16 points and 11 boards. Junior Destinee Morris also reached a career high with 12 points.
Jessica Ferquiere scored a team-high 18 points for UAlbany. The Great Danes shot 51.1 percent (24-for-47) from the field, while holding the Black Knights to 29.9 percent (20-for-67).
Army forced 29 turnovers after forcing 32 in the last game at LIU Brooklyn. The most turnovers by a Black Knight opponent in 2015-16 was 27 by Boston University on March 2, 2016.

KEY MOMENT
- UAlbany forced an Army turnover with 21 seconds left in the fourth quarter, as the Great Danes led 62-59. Fequiere buried a pair of free throws with 14 seconds remaining to put the hosts up by five points and all but seal the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams opened up to a 4-4 tie early before the Great Danes closed the opening quarter on a 13-4 run that made the score 17-8 after the first.
- Army fell into foul trouble early in the first quarter and was forced to go to the bench, while UAlbany went on its run during the final 4:45 of the frame.
- The Cadets put together a 6-0 run early in the second quarter to trim their deficit to seven, 25-18, and force a timeout by the hosts with 6:05 remaining until halftime.
- The Great Danes brought the lead back to double digits by the halftime break, as the score stood 35-24.
- Murray converted a lay-in to cap an 8-0 run for the Black Knights with 3:37 left in the third quarter to bring the score to 42-34, in favor of the hosts. The run lasted 4:23.
- UAlbany finished the quarter with a 6-2 run to boost its lead to 50-38. Cassandra Edwards scored the final points of the period, with a lay-up with 35 seconds left in the third.
- Destinee Morris buried a three from the right corner 3:05 into the fourth quarter to finish a 9-4 run that brought the Black Knights to a 54-47 deficit.
- Hovren sank a jumper to make the score 60-59, in favor of UAlbany, with 2:22 left in the game to cap a 6-0 run.
- The Great Danes scored the final five points of the contest to close out the win.
