Women’s Track Splits Squad for Penn State, Armory
January 28, 2016 | Women's Track and Field
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's track and field team will have its first of two split squad weekends of the indoor season. The team will be competing in the Penn State National Invitational and the Armory Invite this weekend. Penn State is a two-day meet in State College, Pa., starting on Friday at noon. Saturday's action will start at 9:45 a.m. The Armory Invite is a one-day event from New York City on Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
"We're now familiar with the facility, the banked track, the warmup area and the way Penn State conducts the meet," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mike Smith. "This is a good opportunity for our runners to work on competing on the curves because next weekend we head down to Annapolis. The level of competition at this meet will be as high as we've seen so far this year. We will be competing against some of the top schools in the nation."
The Black Knights have already competed at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track Facility this month at the Penn State Relays on the 9th. In that unscored meet, the 4x800 relay team of Abby Halbrook, Cassie Mundekis, Payton Padgett and Courtney Dooley placed second with a time of 9:07.29, marking the second-best mark in Army's history. Halbrook also placed fifth in the mile while Lindsay Gabow finished fifth in the 3000-meter run.
