Men’s Track Prepares for Joe Donohue Games
January 21, 2016 | Men's Track and Field
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's track and field team travels to Northeastern University for the Joe Donohue Games at the Reggie Lewis Center on Friday.
"We felt like this meet would be a good opportunity for us to get everyone some experience," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mike Smith. "We're looking forward to putting some of our athletes in some off events while still keeping others in their main events. This will be a good opportunity for us to go up against some of the top teams in the Northeast."
This will be the first scored meet of the season for the Black Knights after having already competed in three unscored meets. The season started with the Crowell Open at Gillis Field House in December and was followed by the Penn State Relays and Virginia Tech Invitational after the New Year.
The highlight of the season so far has been the throwers. Through the three meets, there have been five top-five finishes in throwing events, including a pair of winning performances.
Freshman Kenneth Brinson recorded back-to-back third-place finishes at Penn State and Virginia Tech. Dawson Hillis placed second in the shot put at Virginia Tech while claiming the top spot at the Crowell Open. Garrett Kohnke won the weight throw at the Crowell Open and placed second behind Hillis in the shot put.
The meet is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. in Boston.
