Men's Tennis Prepared for Joe Hunt Invitational
September 24, 2015 | Men's Tennis
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Army West Point men's tennis team will spend its weekend in the Joe Hunt Invitational, hosted by service-academy rival Navy from Sept. 25-27.
The 12-team tournament will pit the Black Knights against Georgetown, George Mason, Temple, Saint Bonaventure, Delaware, Mary Washington, UMBC, George Washington, Morgan State, and Redlands in addition to the Mids. It will be a double-elimination tournament with three doubles flights and five singles flights.
Army will be utilizing all of its 19-man roster for this tournament as those players who participated in the Rice Invitational last weekend will be giving way for others to compete this weekend, per orders of head coach Jim Poling.
"We're spreading it out and giving everybody a chance to get better and show us what they can do," said Poling. "We want to build these other guys up too, not just the guys that went to Texas. We need a big team. It's a long season, and we want a lot of players that are improving. Our whole goal this fall was to improve. We want everybody to go up a level, and I think they've been doing a good job. It's always fun to go down to Navy and play those guys. It's always a challenge (to play Navy). Both teams get up for it, and that makes it a lot of fun for both sides."
