Bucknell Outlasts Baseball in Extra Innings
April 11, 2015 | Baseball
LEWISBURG, Pa. - Starting pitchers Alex Robinett and Bryson Hough matched one another through 10 innings, before Bucknell broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the bottom of the 11th inning in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Depew Field. The winning run crossed the plate on Jon Mayer's RBI single up the middle.
Army moves to 3-6 in the Patriot League and 15-15 overall, while Bucknell improved to 2-7 in conference games and 16-15 on the year.
Mike Stephens replaced Hough after he allowed one run on six hits with no walks a one strikeout. Stephens (1-0) earned the win after throwing a scoreless top of the 11th with two punchouts.
Mike Korchak reached base safely on a wild pitch on Robinett's 11th strikeout of the game. A passed ball allowed pinch runner Tommy Pennington to move into scoring position with nobody out for Mayer. He ripped a single back through the middle and Pennington motored around to score the deciding run.
Robinett fell to 4-4 with the hard-luck loss and allowed one earned run on seven hits with four walks.
Bucknell struck first with a run on a passed ball in the bottom of the third inning. Singles by Powell and Smith had runners on first and third before the passed ball allowed Powell to score the game's first run.
Hough kept Army scoreless until the top of the sixth when three one-out hits helped Army tie the game. Jon Rosoff delivered a double, Mark McCants singled and Jacob Page followed with an RBI base hit to right center. Army had runners at first and third, but Hough limited the damage and the game remained tied.
Designated hitter Harold Earls returned to the lineup and went 2-for-4 for the Black Knights.
