Big Inning Carries Harvard Past Army

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Harvard scored four runs in the sixth inning and then held off Army to a sweep a doubleheader with an 8-3 victory, Friday at Jack Russell Memorial Stadium.
Harvard won the opener 8-5 and then used a big inning to take the second contest while improving to 9-5 and winning its fifth straight game.
Army fell to 9-8 despite racking up 11 hits.
Jacob Page doubled twice and Ben Lee and Ben Smith each had two hits apiece for the Black Knights.
Harvard wasted little time, scoring the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning on a run-scoring single from Matt Rothenberg.
Army responded in its next at-bat. With two outs, Stu Schley singled, took second on an Alex Dickerson single and scored when Brandon Lee sliced a single to tie the game.
The Black Knights had a runner on in the third when Smith singled for his second hit of the day, in the fourth when Jacob Page and doubled and in the fifth when Smith and Mark McCants singled but were unable to push a run across.
Army broke the tie in the top of the sixth. Page led off the inning with his second double of the game, took third on a ground out and scored on a Brandon Lee single for a 2-1 Army advantage.
The Crimson took the lead in the bottom half of the inning. D.J. Link and Conor Quinn knocked in runs and Matt Hink delivered a two-run single for a 5-2 surplus.
Harvard scored its final runs in the eighth on run-scoring singles from Mitch Krug and Mike Martin and an error that scored a run.
Army tacked on a run in its final at bat when Jon Rosoff doubled to score Kris Lindner who singled.
Army and Harvard will close the four-game series Saturday with a single game at 11 a.m. in Clearwater, Fla.
GAME NOTES: Army wore its all white uniforms with black hats and was the visitor in the game ... Army catcher Ben Smith threw out a pair of runners. He gunned down an attempted base stealer in the fourth and in the seventh, fired to Alex Jensen who leapt and made a great tag to get a runner off of second.
