CORAL GABLES, Fla. - David Thompson, the reigning national player of the week, hit a pair of home runs as #17 Miami posted a 9-1 victory over Army, Tuesday evening at Alex Rodriguez Park.
Miami, ranked nationally in the latest Baseball America poll, collected nine hits and improved to 16-6.
Mark McCants, Alex Dickerson, Jacob Page, Kris Linder all registered hits for Army, which saw its four-game winning streak snapped.
Army moved to 9-5 overall and suffered its first loss during its spring trip to Florida. Army will play Harvard Thursday at 2 p.m. at the New York Yankees Minor League Complex.

The Black Knights threatened in the top of the third. With two outs, Lindner singled, as did Smith, moving Lindner to third. Shortstop George Iskenderian then made a diving play of a sharply hit ball up the middle to end the inning and keep the game tied.
Miami went ahead in the bottom of the third, loading the bases with one out. Franklin entered and walked the first batter he faced before Thompson hit his second home run, a grand slam for a 6-1 Miami lead.
Army had a pair of runners on in the fourth. McCants led off the inning with a walk and Page singled before a flyout and strikeout ended the frame.
The Hurricanes added three runs in the bottom of the fourth on a throwing error and a two-run home run from Iskenderian.
