CLEARWATER, Fla. - Kylie Gross keyed a three-run game-snapping eighth with her two-run double and reliever Emily Anderson retired Army in the home half to preserve Toledo's 6-3 decision at the Eddie C. Moore Complex Friday evening under the lights.

The Black Knights (7-9), suffering their second defeat their opening day in Florida, jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Kristen McPeek's two-out run scoring single that drove in Kasey McCravey. Starter Marla Gooding struck out the next batter in leaving a pair of runners on base.

Toledo tied the score 1-1 on Chandler Rice's two-out RBI single scoring Jessica Lemieux (2-for-3), who ripped a double, then went ahead 2-1 in the top of the fifth on Lemieux' single.

Army rallied in the home half of the fifth with a pair of runs to retake the lead, 3-2. McCravey's single drove in Hailey Megge, who drew a leadoff walk and was sacrificed to second base, to tie the score 2-2.

McCravey (2-for-3) advanced to second on the throw home and stole third base setting the stage for McPeek, 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, who knocked her in when she beat out an infield hit as Army took a one-run lead (3-2).

Toledo rallied to tie the game 3-3 in the top of the seventh. Pinch hitter Samantha Emery led off with a single to knock out starter Kristen West with Caroline Smith coming on in relief. A wild pitch and a groundout moved Emery to third base with Lemieux knocking her in with a single, but she was thrown out trying to reach second base. A flyout stranded a runner at third base.

Anderson took over in relief in the bottom of the seventh and threw hitless ball over the two frames she pitched. After issuing back-to-back walks to start off the seventh, she retired the next five batters to record the win.

With the game tied 3-3 after regulation, the international tie-breaking rule went into effect in the eighth inning.

Army will look to rebound Saturday when it takes on Chattanooga at 6:30 and UMass Lowell at 4:15.
