STORYLINES
Army opened its 2015-16 season with a 39-point victory over Ferrum College. The Black Knights then went on the road and secured wins over Binghamton (75-60) and Fairleigh Dickinson (96-85).
Kevin Ferguson, Tanner Plomb and Kyle Wilson have each scored in double figures in the first three games of the season. Wilson set a new career standard with 36 points on eight three pointers in the win over FDU.
Army's 96 points at FDU equaled the most for a Zach Spiker coached team and the Black Knights set a new field-goal percentage record during the Spiker era with their 64.8 percent effort (35-of-54). Army totaled 25 assists, including a career-high 11 by Dylan Cox as he posted the third double-double of his career. Cox's 11 assists were the most for an Army player since Josh Miller '10 had 11 against Brown on Jan. 2, 2008.
In addition, Ferguson reached the 20-point mark for the fourth time in his career and Wilson's 36 points were the most for an Army player since Ella Ellis '13 put in 37 at Yale on Nov. 24, 2012. Wilson passed Chris Spatola '02 on Army's all-time scoring list and is now sixth in Academy history with 1,548 career points. He is 37 points shy of Ellis, who is fifth on the all-time scoring list with 1,585 career points.
Together, Wilson and Plomb were the top scoring duo in the Patriot League in 2014-15 with an average of 33.3 points per game. Wilson was first in scoring in the conference at 17.5 points per game, while Plomb ranked fourth overall with a 15.8 points per game average. Wilson (22.3 ppg) and Plomb (18.7 ppg) are averaging 41.0 points per night through the first three games, good for the most in the league.
Army returned 91.6 percent of its scoring and 92.9 percent of its rebounding from last season, including seven seniors, which is tied for the most in program history. Army returned 140 of a possible 150 starts from the 2014-15 season with Dylan Cox, Kyle Wilson, Larry Toomey, Tanner Plomb and Kevin Ferguson returning for their senior season.
With the wins over Ferrum and Binghamton, the Black Knights held consecutive opponents to 60 points or less for the first time since the 2013-14 season against Coast Guard and Lafayette.
In a vote of the league's head coaches and sports information directors, Army was chosen fourth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll. The Black Knights have never finished higher than fourth in the final Patriot League standings.
