Women’s Tennis Dominant at Patriot League Kickoff

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Competing in the final tune up before the ITA Regionals next weekend, the Army West Point women's tennis team posted a dominant performance at the Patriot League Kickoff, hosted by Lehigh over the weekend.
Army competed in a series of duals against Colgate, Lehigh and Lafayette, earning a total of 10 doubles victories and 19 singles wins.
Against Colgate, the Black Knights captured all but one victory, sweeping doubles action and earning six solo wins.
Carolyn Pitman and Eva Sung teamed up for a 6-2 win over Jen Ho and Lauren Hyland, while Nancy Porter and Julian Mok earned a 6-3. Bridget Guenard and Allyson Hayley captured a 6-1 win over Nicole Szczech and Cheyenne Brown and Leslie Frankland and Caroline Lorenzini walked away with a 6-2 victory.
In singles play against Colgate, Pitman knocked off Hyland 6-0, 6-4 and Gabriella Spindler competed to a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Ho. Porter knocked off Szezech by a score of 6-0, 7-6 (10) and Hayley captured a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Kaelin Brittin. Guenard bested Katie Grant by a score of 6-0, 6-3 and Mok knocked off Steph Fuentes by a mark of 6-0, 6-2.
Against host Lehigh, the Black Knights earned three doubles wins and six solo victories.
Pitman and Sung again captured a win, walking away with a 6-4 victory. Mok and Porter captured a 6-2 win, while Spindler and Lorenzini earned a 6-3 victory.
In singles action, No. 1 Pitman earned a hard-fought 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (1) victory. Despite dropping the first set, Spindler battled back to capture a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (6) win. Porter walked away with a 6-3, 6-3 victory and Hayley captured a 6-1, 6-3 win. Leslie Frankland wrapped up the singles wins for Army over the Mountain Hawks, boasting a 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (8) victory.
Wrapping up competition against Lafayette, the Black Knights swept the Leopards, earning three doubles wins and seven singles victories.
Pitman and Sung remained undefeated in doubles play, pairing up for a 6-2 win. The pairings of Mok and Porter and Spindler and Hayley each blanked their opponents to earn 6-0 wins.
In singles play, Spindler earned a 6-2, 6-1 win and Porter captured a 6-3, 6-0 victory. Hayley posted a 6-2, 6-1 win and Guenard walked away with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Mok captured a 6-2, 6-0 win, while teammate Lorenzini earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory and Frankland captured a 6-0, 6-2 win.
Army will return to competition next weekend when it travels to Hanover, N.H., for the ITA Regional Tournament. Action will kick off on Thursday, Oct. 22 and will conclude on Sunday, Oct. 25.
